How to Avoid
Foreclosure

Find a lawyer

Foreclosure lawyers who represent homeowners

A lawyer can answer a foreclosure lawsuit, spot mistakes in the notices, negotiate with your servicer and tell you whether bankruptcy would help. Pick your area to see licensed lawyers whose own websites say they help homeowners, never lenders.

Free list. Nobody pays to be listed and nobody is ranked.

Try free help first

If your income is limited, legal aid may take your case for free, and a HUD-approved housing counselor can work with your servicer at no cost. Each state page lists its legal aid offices and the state bar’s lawyer referral service.

How lawyers get on this list

  • An active license with no public discipline on the state bar record.
  • Their own website offers foreclosure help to homeowners.
  • An office in the area. Firms that work for lenders, servicers or trustees are left out.
  • Listed alphabetically. Nobody pays, and nobody is ranked.

  • Free. There is nothing to buy and no fee, ever.
  • No loan number, Social Security number or documents needed.
  • We are not your lender, a law firm or a government agency.

If a sale is days away, do not wait for an email. Call a free HUD-approved housing counselor now at (800) 569-4287.

For example: a sale date, what your servicer has told you, or what changed in your income. Please do not include your loan number, Social Security number or bank details.

Free, and there is nothing to buy. A person reads your message and replies by email, or by phone if you leave a number. We never ask for a fee and we do not sell your details. See the privacy policy.
